The purpose of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery is to provide a forum for the exchange of information and for discussion on a wide range of subjects related to postgraduate surgical education; to maintain high standards of residency training in general surgery and the specialties of surgery by improving graduate education; to provide advice, assistance, and support to program directors on matters pertaining to surgical education and to accreditation; to encourage research in the education and training of general surgeons and surgical specialties; and to represent the interests of program directors to other organizations, individuals and governmental or regulatory bodies concerned with surgical education.

The Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons is an educational and scientific association of surgeons which had its first meeting in 1953 and was officially chartered in its present form in 1958. The society promotes excellence in surgery within the Air Force, serves as a forum for the presentation of scientific papers, fosters esprit de corps, and promulgates military surgical objectives.
